This presentation will provide an in-depth rationale for the use of play therapy with children ages 2-11 in the counseling setting leaving participants with a clear understanding of: why we use play therapy, how the therapeutic power of play works to prevent or resolve mental or behavioral health disorders, how to use this newly learned information to explain to parents, teacher or other stakeholders about play therapy.

Dr. Rudd has been using child-centered play therapy, sand tray and experiential play-based activities with children for the past nine years in a variety of settings from schools, community mental health and private practice. She is an Assistant Professor at Eastern Washington University in the Department of Psychology's Counselor Education program. Dr. Rudd also has a private practice in Spokane.
